Double Cone Mixer
The double cone mixer transports powder or granule material into a rotating stainless steel double cone container by vacuum conveying or manual feeding. As the container rotates continuously, material undergoes complex impact motion combining internal gravity tumbling with the internal and external rotation of the cone walls, achieving uniform mixing across the full batch volume. The symmetric double cone geometry eliminates dead zones at both ends. The sealed design contains dust during operation and the bottom valve discharges the batch by gravity with minimal residue. It is suited for feed, food, pharmaceutical, pesticide, dye, pigment, chemical and cosmetic powder blending.
Application
Feed manufacturers blend vitamin premix, mineral additive, enzyme powder and grain meal at controlled proportions for complete animal feed and aquaculture feed formulations. Food factories mix condiment powder, seasoning blend, instant food premix and functional food additive blends requiring uniform distribution without mechanical shear on fragile granules. Pesticide and agrochemical producers blend active ingredient powder with carrier and adjuvant at precise ratios for wettable powder and dustable formulations. Dye and pigment manufacturers mix color concentrate powder with extender and filler to achieve consistent shade batch to batch. Pharmaceutical plants blend excipient powder, granule blend and active ingredient premix before capsule filling and tablet compression in a sealed GMP compliant environment.

- We blend a pesticide active ingredient at 5 percent loading with talc carrier. Can the double cone achieve uniform distribution at this low concentration without agglomeration?
- Yes. The combined internal and external rotation creates a three dimensional impact pattern that distributes minor components across the full cone cross section during each revolution. For 5 percent active loading on a dense talc carrier, we recommend a pre blend step where the active is mixed with a small portion of talc before loading the full batch. This geometric dilution protocol is standard for low concentration agrochemical blending and reliably achieves uniformity within the batch.
- Our granule material is fragile and breaks if subjected to high shear. Does the double cone generate any blade or paddle contact during rotation?
- No. The double cone mixer has no internal agitator, blade or paddle. Material moves entirely by gravity tumbling as the cone rotates. This is a zero contact shear mechanism, which is why the double cone is specified for fragile granules, coated pellets and effervescent tablet premix where blade contact would cause breakage and fines generation.
- Can we add a liquid binder or spray coating during the mixing cycle and does the cone seal well enough to prevent leakage at the inlet?
- Yes. A spray nozzle port can be fitted to the cone body for liquid addition during rotation. The inlet and all ports are sealed with gaskets rated for the operating pressure during rotation. Liquid addition is standard for feed premix with molasses or vitamin oil, pharmaceutical wet granulation pre wetting and cosmetic binder addition. Specify the liquid addition port requirement at order stage and we size the nozzle for your target spray rate.
- We need vacuum loading from our existing vacuum conveyor system. What connection flange standard does the cone inlet use and is it compatible with our current equipment?
- The vacuum inlet flange follows standard tri clamp or flanged connection depending on the model configuration. We provide inlet flange dimensions and connection type at order stage so your engineering team can confirm compatibility with the existing vacuum conveyor outlet. Custom inlet configurations are available if your conveyor uses a non standard connection.
- What is the batch to batch cleaning procedure between a pesticide batch and a food grade condiment batch on the same machine?
- For strict regulatory separation between pesticide and food production, we recommend dedicated machines rather than shared equipment. If the machine must be shared, a full validated cleaning protocol with swab testing between product families is required. We can supply a cleaning validation support package on request covering recommended cleaning agent, contact time and rinse verification method.
- Does the double cone mixer meet GMP construction requirements and what documentation is provided for a pharmaceutical audit?
- The stainless steel contact surfaces meet food and pharmaceutical contact material standards. We supply stainless steel alloy material certificates, inner surface Ra roughness measurement records, dimensional inspection documents, CE declaration of conformity for the drive and control system, and machine drawings for equipment qualification documentation.
- What available models and capacity range do you offer and what is the lead time for a mid range unit?
- The double cone mixer is available from 50 liter up to 3000 liter total volume, covering working loads from approximately 25 kg to 1500 kg per batch depending on material bulk density. Lead time for mid range models from 200 to 500 liter is 20 to 35 days after order confirmation. Contact us with your target batch weight and material bulk density and we will recommend the correct model and confirm lead time.
